THE BADD DOG PACK LEADER

Andy!

Andy 'Badd Dog' Koch

As the founder and manager of the Badd Dog Blues Society band, Andy has kept the blues alive and kicking in Bellingham and the surrounding towns and cities.

By running open mic's at least two nights a week for the last 15 years, Andy has seen the best and the worst musicians in the Northwest come through and play on one stage or another.

" ...I love music, and there's so much talent in this area that I don't want to see it go to waste," says Andy.

"If I can give people a creative outlet, a way to vent their energy in a positive way, then there's less negative energy for crime and hatred in the world."
Andy is the host of Monday and Tuesday weekly open "mic's" in Bellingham, Washington.

"My vision with the music is to promote live music wherever we can," says Andy. "People are beginning to realize that this (the blues) is a happening thing."

Member of the Washington Blues Society

Andy Keeps up with the music business, on the local scene, calls the society every month, and reports what is going on with the blues in Bellingham, and Skagit County.
Marlee Walker can rely on Andy to keep her informed so that she can relay the information on her radio show and newspaper the "Blues to do’s".

Andy's real, if unspoken, goal is for every person to listen to and feel the blues in their soul. To continue the work of his spiritual godfathers.

He has studied with Howard LeVee, (Bela Fleck and the "Flecktones")
Jim McLaughlin (First Place National Harmonica Champion),
Phil Wiggins (of "John and Phil Wiggins"),
Bud Spires and Mark Graham.
His harp playing can be heard on Jumbalassy’s 1994 CD "Live Jumbies."
Andy’s exciting interpretation of the harmonica puts new definitions in the dictionary of music for this amazingly diverse instrument.
Andy’s various band credits include:
"The Rubber Band," "Dreamsuite," and "The Blues Bandits."animated graphic

"I’ve been kinda toning myself in the position of the "blues guy" from Bellingham, which is great. I get real pleasure in helping this to happen---."
Andy does this in situations like the blues jams, workshops and Blow Off’s he hosts off and on through the blues music season, which is all year round.

"The Blues is about a good person in a bad situation, making the best of it," Koch said as he poked at a disassembled harp,

Andy is not just known as a musician, but as a person who is willing to help others practice the art of the Blues.

Andy Koch Just Clowning Around

Get a glimpse of some of the Clowning work Andy does Andy does have other outlets for his artistic expression. He works as a clown and puppeteer at birthday parties, arts and crafts fairs and a number of other functions.
He puts a theater arts major to work entertaining kids around Whatcom County, a career in which he has found much reward.

"It’s turned into a very interesting art form for me. It’s been very good to me. In fact, if I were smart, I’d do that and bag this music stuff. By day I teach puppetry in the school and work with kids. Do stuff through the Children’s Museum. And at night I turn into a blues musician."
